Legenda Batu Ampar = Batu Yang Terhampar
Long time ago, there was a dingy and skinny man who lived in the geographical area of the Riau Islands. When he was single, people called him Si Badang. He was small in stature, his arms seemed to break easily and his legs looked like they were crippled.
In short, Badang grows up to be an honest, simple, adventurous and powerful man. From the Riau Islands, he also moved, to Bintan, Daik, Buluh Island to Tumasik (Singapore).
In Tumasik, the powerful Badang even represented the country of Tumasik, fighting against a strong man from India. The strong man from India faced the Princess, the ruler of Tumasik, to hand over all his wealth to the Princess if he lost in a power struggle. However, in return, the Princess must hand over Tumasik to her if she manages to win in a strong battle with the Badang, whom the Princess trusts.
Taking place on the East Coast of Tumasik, exactly in front of Sentosa Island, a power struggle began. The strong man from India also showed off his strength by lifting a large rock. Even though he weighed almost half a ton, he was able to lift it above his head. Seeing that, the Princess was upset and nervous, in her heart she kept thinking about the fate of her country if the Badang lost the match.
Until finally it was Badang's turn to show his strength. He headed for the boulder that his opponent could lift. Before lifting the stone, he faced Mount Ledang for a moment, then the Singapore Strait. After that, he lightly lifted the rock and tossed it around using his right palm. He then transferred it also to the palm of his left hand.
A moment passed, the Badang took a swing and suddenly threw the large reddish-black rock into the sea. The rock immediately dissolved into the air and finally disappeared from sight. Be the Badang as a winner. Tuan Putri was excited instead of playing.
"Where did the stone that was thrown fall?" asked the princess to the Badang. "Patik thinks the rock fell and scattered in an area about 10 nautical miles from here on land, my lord," answered the Badang.
Dissatisfied, the princess sent a messenger to find out where the rock had fallen. Together with Badang, the delegation arrived in the north of an island (now known as Batam). The pieces of stone are arranged nicely and beautifully to form a stretch of rock. The messenger said it was Batu Ampar. Since then, the area has long been known as Batu Ampar until now.
