Indonesia's Culinary You Should Eat

It's time to post Indonesia's culinary. Before we get started, I just want to make it clear that this is not an exhaustive or complete list of food in Indonesia (there are thousands of Indonesian dishes), but it’s a definite start to discovering the incredible cuisine of Indonesia. Indonesia is the fourth largest country in the world. Bali, Java, Lombok, Sulawesi, Irian Jaya, Sumatra, Kalimantan and other islands make up Indonesia. There are so many ways to explore Indonesia and if you have little time to actually travel to the beautiful Indonesia, you can do it by tasting our FOOD!

Tahu (Tofu)

These clouds of golden, fried tofu look like little packages behind the windows of the boxes from which they are sold.

Sate (Small pieces of meat roasted)

These tasty meat skewers cook up over coals so hot they need fans to waft the smoke away. Whether it's chicken, goat, mutton or rabbit, the scrappy morsels get marinated in turmeric, barbecued and then bathed in a hearty dose of peanut sauce.

Bakso (Meat ball)

One of the most widely available street food dishes (and in restaurants as well) and loved by nearly everyone, including President Barack Obama who grew up for some time in Jakarta, is bakso (or also known as baso), Indonesian meatballs.

Santan kelapa (Milk squeezed from coconut)

Daytime is so hot it usually does a lot of people looking for freshness and coolness to pep up their respective activities. You can try iced coconut milk or a pudding with milk squeezed from coconut.

Mie ayam (Chicken bakmi)

For this dish, bakmie is boiled in stock and topped with succulent slices of gravy-braised chicken. Chives and sambal add extra flavor, but if it's done right little else is needed.

Rendang ( Minangkabau spicy meat dish)

Perhaps Padang's most famed curry, rendang is not an everyday food since it takes time and skill to make. Its secret is in the gravy, which wraps around the beef for hours until, ideally, it's splendidly tender.

Tongseng (Dish prepared with cabbage and meat us)

Tongseng is goat meat, mutton or beef stew dish in curry-like soup with vegetables and kecap manis (sweet soy sauce).

Shrimp paste (Terasi)

Terasi sauce is the most famous one in Indonesia. Everybody knows about this one because the story of this food brought Indonesia to get something different from others. Many tourists come from others country have tried this sauce.

Gulai (Curry)

Gulai is the common name for curry dishes, namely those from north Sumatra. Indonesian curries have regional variations that depend on the types of meat and fish available, though gulai almost always incorporates cinnamon.

Here are some other typical Indonesian food if translated into English. You should eat, I guess.
